Day 12: Bavarian Breakfast and Oberammergau

We started today with a hearty breakfast in Baindlkirch. This was an authentic Bavarian breakfast with pretzels and sausages. It was excellent. Everyone got 2 sausages and a pretzel, but I ate about 4 sausages and 2 pretzels. The place was in a very rural area, so the landscape was beautiful. It was also interesting to see old people drink beer with breakfast. That is probably very unhealthy, but I’ve noticed that Germans, generally speaking, do not eat packaged or fast food. This probably allows them to get away with drinking in the morning.

After this, we went to Oberammergau. We had an hour to walk around and possibly shop. I did not shop, but I looked at a bunch of antique shops. These were very cool; they do not have these where I live. I saw an antique pistol and antique Jesus christ crosses. The town seemed to have an old charm. We then went up a gondola up a mountain. The fog clouded our view, but it was still amazing. I was very antisocial up here; I did not want to talk to anyone or take pictures with people; I just wanted to take it all in. After all of the action we have had, the peacefulness up there was refreshing.

We then had some free time for a little until our goodbye dinner. The dinner was pretty good; I had schnitzel with some jam. It was nice to see the graduate students again as well. Our group all sat together, and we had a very friendly conversation. The German students were great to hang with, and I’m going to miss them.
