Hello, or as they say in Bavaria, Servus! My name is Eamonn Flynn and I am currently a freshman at the University of Pittsburgh in the College of Business Administration. I am from Middletown, New Jersey, a small town that is just five minutes away from the beach and only an hour away from New York City. The weather in Middletown is quite similar to the weather here in Pittsburgh.
In the College of Business Administration, I currently intend on majoring in Accounting and Finance with a minor in Economics. Why I intend on studying Accounting and Finance is mainly because I feel that my strong-suit is working with numbers and I possess a very deep interest in how money is efficiently allocated across an entire corporation. In addition, many of my family members currently hold jobs in both the Finance and Accounting industries.
As a freshman here at Pitt, I have gotten myself involved in a couple of organizations. I am currently a member of the Zeta Beta Tau Fraternity’s Beta Phi chapter here on campus and was elected to be the on the Executive Board as the Treasurer of the chapter next semester. I hope with this opportunity I will be able to learn how to efficiently file tax returns because of my aspirations to one day become a CPA. I am also a member of PGN, a professional business development organization where I seek to enhance my business skills by participating in resume reviews, mock interviews and learning how to draft professional emails to potential employers. When I am not busy committing myself to academics or clubs, I am most likely watching sports, working out, listening to music, exploring new restaurants or watching movies.
Why I chose to study abroad in Augsburg is because I really want to explore more of what Europe has to offer to someone who has never really broken out of their comfort zone or immersed themselves in a different country’s culture. The only other times I previously have been to Europe were to see my family in Ireland. Now, I have an opportunity to explore a country with a completely different language and culture compared to the United States. Moreover, I have always had a vast interest in Germany when studying its history throughout my years in school. What I also liked about Germany compared to the other Plus3 programs is that the language barrier is not as challenging due to the fact that many German citizens know how to speak English. I feel that this easier language barrier can assist me in learning German vocabulary even faster when interacting with students from the University of Augsburg.
In conclusion, I am very excited to be examining the automobile industry. Although I do not know very much about the automobile industry, all corporations in the automobile industry need accountants, financiers and investors. Therefore, I am open to being educated about all career opportunities related to the automobile industry while also learning about the manufacturing, engineering and the supply chain side of the automobile industry.
These upcoming four weeks cannot go by any sooner. I have already begun dreaming about what is to come as I embark on this awesome journey.
