Hello! My name is Tyler Sheetz and I have been accepted into the Plus3 Korea program. I am from Bucks County Pennsylvania, specifically from Perkasie. Back when I lived in Bucks County, I worked at my local Best Buy for roughly three months (I was seasonal), this was my only previous job that I got payed for. I now go to the University of Pittsburgh and am hoping to get my degree in computer engineering along with be a part of the track and field team as a pole vaulter. I used to be a pole vaulter in high school for 3 years and can say that I have performed averagely. Though I do hope to improve in order to do well as a college pole vaulter. As of right now I have completed my first semester of college and an currently working on completing my second semester. In my time at college, I’ve learned that it is a lot harder than what my high school had prepared me for, but I’m sure that I will eventually learn to overcome the hardships.
I am extremely excited for this program not only to learn about smart systems, but to also experience an Asian country since I have never been to one before. I have previously traveled to Germany, Canada, and some select islands including St. Thomas. I highly enjoy travelling because I get to experience different cultures other than the one in which I was raised in. Seeing how other people live their daily lives is fascinating to me. Travelling also helps put together the scope of life, meaning that it helps me see how there are many more people each with their own history other than those that I know of at home.
Some things that I hope to get out of this program are both to learn more about smart systems and to learn more about the Korean way of life. As of right now, I know just enough about smart systems to get by day by day; however, I am extremely interested in learning more about this subject especially considering that it will be beneficial for me to know more about considering my major. As far as learning more about the Korean way of life, this is more of a personal goal. I feel as if the more cultures that I learn in life the more well-rounded I will be along with being able to be more understanding of people no matter their backgrounds. Also, along with this, I am excited to try out Korean foods. From what I have experienced so far, thanks to my Korea trip instructor, Korean food has been exceptionally tasty and healthy at the same time. Lastly, something else that I hope to get from this program is to be able to learn how companies function on a daily basis so that way I can get some insight as to what to expect for my future career. This last hope is more of a professional goal from this trip.
Though it will be a long flight with some long drives, it will definitely be a worth-while trip. I think that I and everyone else going will have an amazing time!
