Ireland Here I Come!

Hi everyone! My name is Erin Shriber and I am currently a junior in the College of Business Administration here at the University of Pittsburgh. I am majoring in Marketing along with a Communication Certificate. In addition to my studies, I am a member of Best Buddies, Phi Beta Lambda, and I am also in a sorority. I transferred to Pitt in spring 2018 and have loved every minute at Pitt since I have been here. I am from Wexford, Pennsylvania, which is about 30 minutes north of campus. I have always called Pittsburgh home since I have lived here my entire life. Travelling has always been something I enjoy doing with my family and friends, and I am excited to travel this summer with my classmates at Pitt. I have always enjoyed travelling because I enjoy visiting new places, trying new things, learning about the culture, and seeing how every place is so unique no matter where you go. I am looking forward to study abroad and seeing what this new experience will bring.

This summer I will be going on the Plus3 Ireland trip for 2 weeks. Ever since I graduated from high school I knew that studying abroad was something that I wanted to do in college. I thought studying abroad was something I would not have the chance to experience since I was a transfer student, but once I got to Pitt and heard about the Plus3 transfer program I knew this program was perfect for me. I have never been to Ireland or traveled alone before so I am looking forward to this new experience. Ireland has always been on my list of places that I would like to travel to someday and I can’t wait to be there in just a few weeks. I am excited to learn about the culture, history, artistic heritage, explore the town of Dublin, learn how businesses operate by going on the company site visits, and going on daily excursions.

While in Ireland I have set personal, academic, and professional goals that I hope to achieve. I hope to develop personally by stepping outside my comfort zone and trying new things. While in Ireland I will constantly have to adapt to new situations and learn more about myself as I embark on these new encounters. Academically, I hope to apply the information I learned in the pre-departure meetings to real life situations, and get exposure to globalization through innovative industries in Dublin. While abroad I hope to gain transferrable skills that I will be able to apply to future classes at Pitt as well as future careers. This will be an unforgettable experience that I will gain so much from.

I am very excited and thankful for this opportunity to study abroad in Ireland. I can’t wait to see what Ireland has to offer and what it is like being immersed into a new culture for two weeks. I am very excited to leave for Dublin in just a few weeks and cant wait to share all my experiences with everyone.
