Hola!
Costa Rica’s outdoorsy-ness is what originally drew me to choosing this program. This can largely be traced back to their multiple different climates, and geographic settings. These beautiful scenes are still thriving due to Costa Rica’s many efforts to be a sustainable country. The focus they put on sustainability makes me view Costa Rica as very progressive because sustainability is something that most countries haven’t yet put a focus on. Two ways Costa Rica is moving to become more sustainable is through their pledge to become plastic free as well as their ecolodges.
Their plastic pledge to ban all single use plastic products by 2021 is very interesting as this is something I have just began seeing in America recently through pushes to stop using plastic straws. If Costa Rica succeeds in this initiative, they will become the first single-use-plastic-free country in the world.
Ecolodges are accommodations that are constructed and operated in a way to minimize their impact on the natural environment they are in. Each ecolodge is unique but some support certain local projects, some of which being sustainability projects. This is a really cool and unique way to further sustainability efforts.
That’s all for now! Now I have to try to learn as much Spanish as I can before we arrive in Heredia!
Adios!
