Children’s Day (05/05/2019)

At the Korean airport, otherwise known as the Incheon airport, we had to first fill out a small paper and a larger paper, the larger paper was about the size of a single brochure page whereas the smaller paper the size of a credit card. The small paper was for customs and the larger paper was a traveler declaration form. After the time at the airport and the time at customs. We had gone to get our money exchanged from dollars to won. it was advised to me to not exchange more than 100 dollars at the airport because the exchange rate is at the airport isn’t as good as the ones in the inner city, so I only exchanged 60 dollars which came out to be roughly 62 some thousand won.

After this, it was off to the hotel. We took a coach bus that was very well decorated on the inside. There were curtains, well designed clothes over the seats, and a TV in the front. This is where our group was introduced to all those from the Asia Institute. The Asia Institute is basically a group that assists students in discovering Asia. When we arrived at the hotel, it was very lavish looking on both the outside and inside. The rooms are about the size of a campus dorm room. Everything was basically how one would expect it, except for the toilet. There was a regular flush handle but there were also many buttons on the side that I still have no idea what they do due to the labels being in Korean. I’m sure I will eventually figure out what they do, but that day just simply is not today.

After getting oriented in the hotel, we went to a very nice dinner. There were many small platters put out for groups of four to share, and all of them were delicious. After dinner, I found myself having nothing to do and remembered that our instructor said that there was a festival going on near the hotel. So some friends and I decided to go over and check it out. It was a very fun time, the festival (from my recollection) was called children’s day. This lasted about an hour since my arriving there. After this I then decided to go to bed and get ready for the next day ahead of me!
