Milan Memories: Day 1

Good morning Milano! Our two week journey began this morning with an overnight flight from Newark New Jersey to Milan. With an abundance of movies on board the flight, there was a lot of options to occupy our time, but unfortunately sleep only came to a select few. Upon our landing it was obvious the close to 24-hour travel time had taken its toll: we were zombies! Luckily everyone’s luggage made it and we were all accounted for upon boarding the bus that would take us to our boutique hotel, located in the city center. Immediately after dropping our luggage off in the lobby, we headed for a short walking tour to familiarize our selves with the areas closely surrounding us and which ending with a delicious lunch provided by our tour sponsor, WorldStrides. On today’s menu was a collection of local breads, a cheese and prosciutto board, lasagna with beef ragout, and we finished with a refreshing lemon sorbet. It was just what we needed to bring us back to life after close to a day and a half awake. After lunch wrapped we headed back to the hotel for a brief orientation and nap time! Orientation helped to fill us in on the customs and cultures of the area, while also warning us of the potential dangers of being an American tourist. Orientation was our last group obligation of the day and after a small group of us decided to explore the shopping district located near us. We browsed down Corso Buenos Aires and then headed to a pizza shop recommended by our tour guide, Luca. He said it was one of the best pizza restaurants in all of Milan! We all split 3 thin crust, wood-fired margarita pizzas, and wow he was not kidding. I can’t wait for what tomorrow brings on day two of our Italian journey!
