Korean Baseball

Today began with breakfast once again down in the B2 level of the hotel. I did not eat much, I only had some lettuce and spring rolls as opposed to yesterday where I had a larger meal and some tea. After breakfast I was able to relax for about 20 minutes until we had to get on the bus to go to Hanyang university. The bus ride took about forty minutes, and it was definitely a nice ride because we got to see a part of the city that we had not previously seen.

When we got to the university, we were greeted by a woman that works for the international office at Hanyang. She led us to a building that on the inside reminded me of the lounges of Posvar at the University of Pittsburgh. In this building we saw three different presentations. The first was about the history of Hanyang, the second about the summer and winter classes at Hanyang, and the third about the culture and history of Korea. All of these presentations were interesting, I personally thought that the history and culture presentation was the most fascinating though. We learned about how resilient the Korean people are. Their country has been conquered over many times but yet they still have the ability to band together and take it back. They have also won many battles including a naval battle to which the Koreans were outnumbered 12 to 120, but yet the Koreans still won this battle. I also learned that apparently Koreans procrastinate a lot which was not something I had honestly expected, but it definitely gives me a commonality between the Korean people and myself. Another commonality that I had learned about the Korean people is that they are very fatalistic meaning that they accept things as they happen. A common phrase that I like to use in many occasions is “It just be like that” which is basically accepting something bad that may have happened.

After these presentations, we had gone on a tour with the students of Hanyang. We had visited their amphitheater and their library. After this our group had gone to lunch at the Hanyang cafeteria. Lunch was composed of a beef patty, a fried egg over rice, kimchee, some cold noodles, a yogurt drink, and hot soup. It was definitely a larger sized meal than anything Pitt provides along with being great food.

We then went to the last part of our tour which was the museum inside of the university, it was interesting learning about the history of Hanyang university.

To finish the day, some friends and I had gone to a baseball game after going to a mall. The mall was well built and had an amazing set up to it. The baseball game was also nice, I believe that the home team won which was good to witness for my first Korean baseball game.
