Today started off with breakfast as usual which was still amazing. I even tried the curry pork today and it was amazing. After breakfast we all loaded up the bus and went on our way to Huawei. Arriving at Huawei was like looking at the gates of heaven if heaven was a mix between Westworld and Ex Machina.

Walking into the front doors was immaculate and this was only supported by the beautiful architecture and hospitality. We were first greeted by being handed ear pieces in order to assist us in hearing the tour from anywhere in the building. Then the tour began, and I witnessed some of the most ground breaking technology to date including 5G, AI chipsets, and perfectly crafted cellphones. Some of the most interesting technologies that Huawei displayed included a facial detection based security system which was impressively accurate as well as an AI Graphics Processing Unit which can rival the Nvidia frontier V(the current top of the line model). After the tour concluded, we gathered in a meeting room where the we were given a presentation on the Huawei business model and company growth which was extremely interesting and informative. Finally, we all had a bathroom break in the fanciest bathroom that I have seen in my entire life. It had four ply toilet paper, mind blowing. Huawei was incredible and my next phone will definitely be a Huawei.

After the visit at Huawei, we all traveled to a restaurant in a high-end mall somewhere in the city. The food at this place was so good, especially the beef and potato thing. After lunch, we headed to VIPKID, an online Chinese tutoring company. This company visit was a much different pace than Huawei both in terms of size and work culture. The tour of VIPKID lasted much shorter but the presentation about the platform as well as the Q&A lasted significantly longer than Huawei and it was extremely interesting to hear about the company. The most interesting part was that the teachers were similar to Uber drivers where they are free lanced teachers looking to normally just make some money on the side. This allowed for the company to focus more on developing a better platform and improving rather than working around pre-hired teachers. The visit to VIPKID was extremely interesting and I was able to see how a fast growing start up looks.

Finally, to finish off the day, everyone went down to the third-floor restaurant to eat dumplings and then went off to the Olympic Park to do some sightseeing. The bird’s nest was an architectural masterpiece and It was so cool to see that even after eleven years people were still there on a Wednesday night.

We also got to take pictures with a few people who wanted to take pictures with the American students which was really funny. Today was a huge success and I still cannot get over how amazing Huawei was.
