Chilling at Haeundae

Our last full day in Korea had unfortunately arrived so quickly. With the full day free, naturally we went back to the beautiful beach we first went to when we arrived in Busan. The weather was perfect for a beach day. Haeundae beach was about a thirty minute taxi ride from the hotel. There are other beaches in Busan, but the others aren’t as nice as Haeundae, in my opinion. What would have made Busan perfect is if our hotel was closer to Haeundae, but I still love everything about the time we spent there. Being able to relax and put my feet in the water felt great. I actually ended up falling asleep on the beach. I had covered by face with sunscreen and didn’t expose much skin, but my feet and the tops of my ankles got some sun.

When we realized we were all starving, we walked down the main road that had all of the shops. Feeling a little homesick, we decided to eat at a burger place. The cheeseburger I ordered tasted like something back from the States. I felt bad that on our last full day in Korea we were eating American food, but I also knew that at the farewell dinner we would be treated with the best of Korean cuisine.

At the farewell dinner, we all presented our products, my group’s being MyFi, an app service that uses crowdsourcing to help users find reliable WiFi in Seoul. The presentations were funny and Dr. Yun’s words were heartfelt before we ate. I really appreciate all that he had done for us on the trip. He had gift bags laid out with our names written in Korean on them, and each of us had to find our own. I learned the Korean alphabet before we came over, so I easily found mine. He gave us all handwritten notes (in Korean, of course), and I will never forget this experience.

“Emily! I was happy to visit Korea with a woman who is kind, strong, honest, and responsible.”
