Logistics and Free Time in Shanghai

Tonight is our last full night in China and it does not feel real. It feels like we still have more time here, but we are quickly wrapping up our trip. I`m very tired, but I am still really enjoying my time here. I am really ready to relax at this point. Today, we will go to the Yang Shan Port. Here, we were at the top of the hill looking down on all of the large cargo ships. They were carrying massive amounts of trailers. It was amazing seeing the entire port and the cargo ships. There was a very large amount of cargo on the port, but it was not busy at sea. After taking time to relax and watch the port, we went for a company visit at Lingang Modern Logistics.

Lingang is a logistics company that focuses on importing and exporting goods into/from China. Their strategic position of their ports and headquarters in Shanghai allows them to be in the most active part of China. Due to the large need of importing and exporting with China, their business will always be active as long as there is trade. They have a very strong business due to these facts. They have a few ports in China, allowing them to maximize the amount they ship and to allow them to own the playing field. They ship everything from kiwis to cars, and they are very effective with loading and transportation. They work with E-commerce support by supplying groceries that customers buy online. The government funds this company and the company works with the government by following certain rules and orders. This company also offers warehouses to its customers that they can personally customize. This is such a large company that I was very glad to visit.

After we left the company, we had some time to ourselves. I went out with two friends to explore the city without a large group. We eventually ended up in a nearby mall. In China, they have a lot of underground passageways due to the subway and train system. These passageways were difficult to navigate because it was very easy to get lost. It was also difficult because we couldn`t read the sign, but we finally made it to the mall. Then, we had to search the mall for food. This was also very difficult because we didn`t know where to go. After finding food and having a great dinner, we went back outside and saw that it became dark. Shanghai is extremely beautiful in the dark, with its many buildings lighting up with colors and sparkling lights. We went ahead and got ice cream at Dairy Queen. Despite this being an American company that we know well, we found that it was very different from the Dairy Queen we had at home. They had more flavors and combinations, such as matcha ice cream and chocolate chips. It was interesting to see how companies change to adapt to the surrounding culture.

Today was a more relaxing day and I am very grateful for it. It is a great way to wind down and prepare to leave. I`m very excited for our plans tomorrow, so I can not wait! It has been wonderful so far!
