Hello!!
My name is Kate Sams, and I am a first-year student at the University of Pittsburgh… so excited to document my entire experience in Cyprus and share all the details here in this blog!
A little about myself… I haven’t officially declared a major yet but am leaning towards Finance or Accounting with a minor in Hispanic Language & Culture (currently have over five years learning the Spanish language). I’m also planning to enroll in the Certificate Program in International Business to learn more about the increasing aspect of globalization in society, which will hopefully allow me to travel abroad in my professional career.
In my free time, I enjoy playing board games, going out to restaurants, and spoiling my pet hamster, Harvey. Additionally, my friends and family are extremely important to me, so I try spending as much quality time with them as possible, whether that be lounging around the house or exploring the city.
Since I haven’t been outside of the country before, I am a little nervous about the long flights and travel logistics but mostly just eager for a wonderful trip to the beautiful island of Cyprus. Since I’m adventurous and love trying new things, I will definitely be soaking up the culture each day by visiting restaurants, buying souvenirs, and taking a lot of pictures. In choosing this program, I will be able to see both the ancient architectural landmarks of the island but also the metropolitan area that resembles a more modern city.
At the end of the trip, I hope to have a better understanding of what life in Cyprus is really like, along with learning more about the specifics of international supply chains. This program was a perfect fit, allowing me to learn more about business outside of the United States and leaving me well-prepared future study-abroad trips. Not only will I gain a unique experience to discuss with future employers, but I will make meaningful memories that’ll have a lasting impact on me for the rest of my life.
