Hi! My name is Julianna Werner and I am currently a freshman in the business school. I plan on majoring in marketing and supply chain with certificates in Leadership and Ethics and Business Analytics. In addition, I am hoping to get a law minor through Dietrich. I am originally from the Pittsburgh area. On campus, I am involved in American Marketing Association, Women in Business, and Student Government Board. I work as an Intramural Soccer Supervisor and a Marketing Specialist for First Sip Brew Box. While not in class or meetings, I enjoy hanging out with friends and watching Netflix. I often try to get off campus and explore the city. I often go out to different neighborhoods and try different restaurants. I look forward to eating tons of different foods and exploring new places this summer, just in a whole different way.
I chose business since I love connecting with people and making an impact. I found that I liked being creative, and numbers were not exactly my strong suit. I found marketing interesting and something I wanted to pursue. In addition, I find logistics interesting. Especially with my competitive fire, I want to find the cheapest, easiest, more reliable way to do things. With these focuses in mind, I want to expand my mind to understand what these look like on a global scale. I love talking to people of diverse backgrounds One of the best ways to do that is to experience the culture, something I am looking forward to doing with this trip.
I will be traveling with Pitt Plus 3 to Germany this summer. I chose Pitt for opportunities just like this one. Before this trip, I had only traveled abroad once on a mission trip to Costa Rica. I want to go abroad more often and learn more about the world. Part of business is understanding how projects and business can be scaled internationally. Knowing markets, culture, and people is vital to that expansion. I want to have the knowledge and experience knowing different places and cultures around the world. If I travel post grad on my own time or for business, I want to have no hesitation and proceed with the confidence that programs like Plus 3 provide.
Plus 3 gave me the perfect opportunity to go abroad in an area I want to study. I found the two weeks abroad time span great since I have a job for the summer and plan on continuing there. With only two weeks, Plus 3 gives me a good taste of what it means to be a student in another country. Plus 3 is a great intro to larger and longer trips I hope to take in the future. In addition, I am part German so learning more about my history has been interesting. I look forward to growing closer to my 18 other classmates and getting to know the students at the University of Augsburg.
I’m excited to go and I will continue blogging with updates. Hail to Pitt!
