Plus 3 Germany: There and Back Again

Hello everyone! My name is Jerry Peng and I am a freshman at the Swanson School of Engineering and I am majoring in Mechanical Engineering. I grew up in the suburbs of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and I have a younger brother who’s currently in 9th grade. I enjoy playing badminton and running in my free time. I also enjoy coding and reading as well.

I chose the Plus3 Germany program because I have always wanted to visit Germany. In high school, I took German and I developed a really good relationship with my German teacher. He always pushed me to achieve and I really enjoyed his class. I learned a lot about the culture and people and I have always wanted to experience it for myself. When I found out about the opportunity I was thrilled at the idea of studying abroad. This program will give me the chance to go to Germany and gain an understanding of the culture.

Personally, I hope to learn and appreciate the differences between our culture and Germany’s. I’ve always enjoyed trying new things. Going and just seeing the beautiful scenery and great architecture appeals to me greatly and I want each new thing I experience to help me to grow as a person. But, the point of the trip isn’t all about tourist attractions. Going to Germany with Plus3 allows me to gain an insight into how engineering works on a global scale. I will learn about the way companies approach engineering challenges and their cultural and political stance on various issues. I will also get to talk with the Germany students to collaborate on company presentations and to learn what their day in the life is like.

I look forward to documenting my journey and I can’t wait to go!
