Cyprus Day 1

I started my day watching the sunrise from my window. The vibrant colors of the sky served as a perfect backdrop highlighting the skyline of Nicosia. We had our first walking tour at 10 am to get a feel of the new city. Nicosia is split into two sections, the old and new cities, and the differences cannot be more pronounced. The old city serves as the historic center of the city, surrounded by ancient Venetian walls and home to many quaint cafes and shopping locations in traditionally styled architecture. However, the new city is lined with skyscrapers as cars zip by on the left side of the road. This section had a much more modern feel as it houses many corporate headquarters and retail shopping.

Following our tours, we stopped at a traditional Cyprian restaurant where we had a several-course meal of many staple foods of Cyprus. I cannot say I disliked any of the foods, but the pork kabobs were my favorite. Dish after dish continued to be served to the table, and it seemed to be never-ending. However, the meal closed with a dish of yogurt topped with a decadent orange marmalade glaze. Leaving full, I could not have been more satisfied and ready for my next excursion tomorrow.
