Day 2: University Tour & 1st impressions

What a day we just had! Between commuting to the University of Augsburg early this morning, and our day-long scavenger hunt, this day consisted of LOTS of walking around. The most enjoyable part was getting to meet with the students and work on our company introductions, I really liked trying out my German phrases on the students, even if I was completely wrong!

As we got up early in the morning around 7:30, the breakfast at hotel Ibis was a complete surprise! I got to try a new style of Bavarian breakfast, including pretzels, salami, ham, and other types of meat traditionally eaten in the morning. After breakfast, we boarded the tram to the University. Like Professor Feick had been stressing, the tram showed up at 8:27, directly on time!

After working and presenting our introduction to our assigned company, GROB-werke, we ate at the university dining hall. I had what tasted like a chicken sandwich – I’m not sure if it was chicken, but regardless, I had taken the risk anyway. It turned out to be a great lunch with the group, where shortly after we began our campus tour and scavenger hunt around the city.

My group for the scavenger hunt was Ben, Jason, Shreya, Sydney, Sophia, and our trusty travel companion, Steph. We visited 2 churches, several fountains, and took many great pictures along the way. Concluding our day, we had a group dinner with our German chaperones in a very tasty Italian restaurant. I had gnocchi with steak, reminding me of home and my mother’s homemade beef stroganoff. I’m very excited to visit our first company tomorrow morning, as well as see the alps in Oberammergau.
