Lovely Tours! Tumultuous bathroom breaks.

As our first full day in Ireland comes to an end, I can look back and realize that…wow, this has been a very very long time coming! When we stepped on the plane and had our drive through the city and to our StayCity it was easy to notice the similarities and differences in architecture with the places I have previously been. For example, I was not super surprised to notice that the architecture of the housing and such was similar to that of London (given the British Empire), but I was a little surprised to notice the connections I could make it the architecture in cities across the Atlantic, like certain parts of Washington D.C. and even Toronto, Canada. I really noticed the similarities in the road structure to that of Washington D.C as I was just there this past summer. I am so excited to be here, and I absolutely loved our first day being primarily learning. I was looking forward to the learning and historical aspect the most when coming to Ireland, and I am so appreciative that we got some major tour time on the very first day. For one, I thought our tour guides were absolutely fabulous. I was never bored, always engaged, and quite literally learned way more cool information than I expected. Something I thought was really interesting that I learned on our first tour was that Frederick Douglass, a great American social reformer and abolitionist, came to Dublin to speak and spread the fears and slavery to the Irish people, where he then met Daniel O’Connell an esteemed person in Ireland. This leads me to why it’s important to know history when in the role of a business consultant in a country in which you do not originate. The Irish people knowing the history of Daniel O’Connell and the American People knowing the history of Frederick Douglass makes for a great connection of two people highly focused on liberties and freedoms. As a business consultant, making those connections to the client is just as important as the job being done; therefore, knowing the country’s history and the connections to your own country, will make for a more well-rounded experience on both ends. At the end of the day, I can look back on a wonderful day of lovely tours and lo and behold, bathroom breaks!
