Starting Fresh in Nicosia

After waking up to the morning sounds of the city, my day started with hotel breakfast consisting of an omelette, croissant, and a few slices of turkey and ham. Our group’s walking tour of the New City began at 10AM and the warm, sunny weather couldn’t have been more perfect. The more modern architecturally designed buildings, traffic, orange trees, and shopping centers were quite noticeable in the New City.

After the morning tour, I enjoyed a scrumptious chicken fillet dish at Evroulla in the Old City, closer to the hotel. After lunch, our group had an orientation/visit to the University of Nicosia. One thing that really stuck out to me there was the outdoor cafe/lounge area for students. Once we returned from the university, we had a time for a short, but much-needed break.

Then, from 6-7:30PM, we toured the Old City consisting of narrow roads/alleys, friendly locals, and classic restaurants. Along with this, we learned much about Cyprian history including the Turkish-Greek conflict, governmental rule, and education standards. Once we concluded the Old City tour, we ate at the Meze Tavern restaurant which featured numerous delicious dishes and finished with an orange marmalade glaze and yogurt dessert!
