2 Companies on Day 2

Day 2 started a bit earlier than Day 1, but I was excited to hear from those representing Medochemie and Wargaming after an omelette, croissant, and slices of meat from the hotel breakfast. (I am starting to like the “breakfast manager’s” hospitable demeanor.) At 8AM, we made the one hour bus ride to Limassol, and I was fond of the modern and high-class architecture as we entered the coastal city.

Founded in 1976, Medochemie is a global pharmaceutical company that develops, licenses, manufactures, and distributes drug products. Currently, they have facilities in Cyprus, Vietnam, and the Netherlands, but they are planning and hopeful to expand in other countries in the future. I learned that Medochemie follows a strategic, tactical, then operational supply chain plan for each of their products. Also, I learned the term “Active Pharmaceutical Ingredient” (API) and how the company has to follow “Good Manufacturing Practices” (GMP) enforced by European agencies, similar to the role of the FDA. Lastly, the warehouse tour was quite fascinating, and I understood that there are fast-paced, slow-paced, and reserve/satellite sections.

Next, I enjoyed rice and a creamy chicken fillet for lunch at the University of Nicosia, basking in the sunlight outside. After my meal, we had a presentation from Wargaming in a university amphitheater. Wargaming was founded in 1998, and they are an international company which develops and publishes online video games, tailored to certain regions of the world. I was quite appealed to the game design process during most of the duration of the meeting, learning about the “green light”, competition, expert players, and some of the company’s most successful games.

Overall, today was more professional and informational, and I am looking forward to travelling back to Limassol and spending time at the port and visiting the Limassol Castle tomorrow!
