We started our day with a company visit to Medochemie. Located in the port city of Limassol, Medochemie is a pharmaceutical company specializing in the production of generic medicines. Upon arrival at the headquarters, we were greeted by a panel of executives across different company sectors. Each gave a presentation of their department, starting with quality control. Medochemie takes pride in producing superior products and has controls in all parts of the supply chain, from sourcing the raw ingredients to the distribution of the products at pharmacies and hospitals. Moreover, they discussed the planning of the supply chain even up to 5 years. Following the panel, we toured their warehousing and saw their different methods of storing fast pick, slow pick, and reserve goods.
After our tour, we headed to the University of Nicosia to meet with game design experts from Wargaming. Producing hit titles such as World of Tanks and World of Warships, Wargaming is an award-winning video game development firm. During this meeting, we learned their marketing strategies where they produce country-specific content to lure in patriotic customers. In addition to the marketing strategies, we learned about the video game development process. All starting with an idea, video games go through numerous greenlight stages of testing, prototype, alpha, and beta, to determine if a game will be viable. However, this process has inefficiencies due to a “toxic positivity” where one is too afraid to call out a bad idea. As the development of video games is a multimillion-dollar endeavor, continually pushing a bad idea through the different stages proves to be exceptionally costly. This was a very insightful day in two industries I knew little about.
