Exploring Augsburg (5/9)

Today we visited the University of Augsburg for the first time. We took the bus from our hotel to the school this morning. When we arrived, we started working on our presentations with the German students. After an hour of preparing, we gave our presentations to the class.

Once our presentations were finished, we ate lunch in the Mensa, the university cafeteria. As seen in the attached picture, I ordered a Germknoedel which is a kind of cake with a vanilla frosting and cherry filling. With this, I drank Spezi: a mix of Fanta and Coke. This is a very popular drink in Germany. Afterwards, we were given a tour of the city by the German students. We completed a scavenger hunt going around the city visiting churches, monuments, and learning about Augsburg history. At the end of the tour, we ate dinner at an Italian restaurant in Augsburg. I ordered a “Salami” pizza. This is the same as a pepperoni pizza in the US, but ordered a “pepperoni” pizza in Germany has green peppers on it.

My major takeaway from today was how different cities are in Germany than the United States. The streets are all made out of cobblestone which I find beautiful. It makes cities much more visually appealing. Also, I found the vast presence of historic statues and monuments amazing. Seeing a fountain that has existed for centuries doesn’t happen very often in the United States, so seeing them in Germany was an amazing experience.

Signing off,
