Boats and Mountains

Today was another trip to Limassol. We left bright and early at 8am again and arrived at the Maritime Training Center for our tour. We first learned some background about the business and what kinds of cargo they ship. The students who are trained there live in the facility. We were informed that some of the training programs last a few weeks while others last a few months. We then got to tour the training facilities. It was really interesting to see the controls of big ships like that, I didn’t realize how complex they were. One thing that I found interesting was how they handle a potential collision with another ship. The captain said that there is a specific and concise book with rules on how to avoid collisions. The biggest rule is to travel at a safe speed. My biggest takeaway from the Maritime visit was that every job when handling a ship is just as important as the other. While watching real trainees during the tour, they all had a specific and important job while manning the ship.

We then went to Omodos Village and had an extravagant lunch. It was the best food I’ve had all trip. It included vegetables, pasta, salad, fruit, chicken, sausage, hummus, and more. The small town was lovely and I took a lot of pictures.

We spent the rest of the afternoon in Troodos Square. The view of the mountains was unreal and the small shops were so cute. One man who owned a small shop offered me to buy wine. He said that drinking the wine will result in 3 children as that’s what happened when his family members drank it before. I ended up buying mixed flavors of Cyprus Delights and taste tested a lot of nuts and fruit candies. I also bought a juice box.
