It was another early, exciting day here on Day 3, and I started to get into the same routine breakfast: an omelette, a few meat slices, and a croissant. After departing the hotel at 8AM and returning to Limassol, we visited/toured two port operating companies: DP World and EUROGATE. Both companies became privatized after 2017, and are on year 6 of their 25 year lease. Being the largest commercial port company in Cyprus, something I learned from the DP World associate was that it takes people, a system, and an established culture to be successful. From the EUROGATE visit, I was quite impressed by the equipment used for transportation and the way they use technology as a means of organized operation.
After these impressive company visits, we ate as a group at Diamante Blu at the Old Port. We then explored the medieval Limassol Castle of the French Richard the Lionheart. I was fascinated by the various artifacts and stone carvings within the castle. Once we finished exploring the castle, we had time to navigate around the Marina and the Old Port. Because of the warm weather and the clear water, a few were inclined for a quick swim near the pier. Following this, a few of us climbed rocks to gaze at the subtle waves of the sea and point out the cargo ships in the distance. I am excited to revisit Limassol soon once again!
