Day Three; First time in the Sea

We started the day out by returning to Limassol once again, where we toured two shipping companies: DP Limassol & EUROGATE. The companies both took over operations of the shipping yards from the Cyprus government back in 2017, and acquired 25 year leases. While both companies have the ability to manage shipping containers and vessels, EUROGATE focuses completely on it. I was blown away by both their storage units & massive cranes, which easily reached up to 15 stories tall.

The similarities between the companies ended there, however. EUROGATE is an EU company and focused on shipping, while DP Limassol is a global company based out of Dubai. DP Limassol also focused on every aspect of the maritime industry, including both non-container shipping and passenger ships such as cruise liners. Their new terminals are some of the prettiest buildings in Cyprus and help to make it one of the most attractive and popular ports on the whole island.

After our visits to the shipping companies, we enjoyed lunch at a seaside restaurant. Despite it being an upscale restaurant, which had an 800 euro glass of champagne on its menu, we were served the most American food you’ll find anywhere in Cyprus: Burgers, fries, chicken fingers, etc. I couldn’t eat any because allergies suck, so I was brought some grilled chicken. They also brought me ‘gluten free’ pita bread, but I didn’t trust it, and tasting from some friends did not give me a concert answer.

After lunch, we went to see the Limassol castle, which was full of unique artifacts and culture. The four-story castle also provided us with beautiful images of the city. In our remaining free time, I decided to sacrifice my extra pair of shorts & fail miserably at executing a flip off the pier. After almost dropping my glasses through the floor, I rescued the sea turtles from Landon’s bag that had floated away. Overall, it was a very beautiful day and I can’t wait to return to the sea soon.

fun fact: I wrote this twice b/c my first one deleted itself
