Day five was another long day spent in Cyprus. We began the morning by traveling to Limassol to visit BSM. I found the building of the training facility to be really interesting since they weren’t allowed to touch the walls of the structure but build their own facility on the inside. The models of boats and different systems found on a boat were intriguing. After hearing from the company, we toured the facility and were able to see all the simulation equipment used to teach trainees different skills for managing a shipping boat. At the end of the tour, we were able to use the equipment that simulated controlling the boat which was fascinating and quite difficult.
After visiting BSM in Limassol, we drove to Zygi for another Meze-style lunch featuring a lot of seafood. Personally I thought the bread with hummus and tahini was the best part since I am not a fan of seafood. After lunch, we continued driving along the shore until we reached Larnaka. Our first stop in Larnaka was a mosque on the sight of where the prophet Mohammad’s foster mother died, the most significant Muslim spot in Cyprus.
Following the quick visit at the mosque, we drove to the beach and we’re given free time. During this time, I walked around the beach a little and got a drink at this popular coffee cafe just across the street from the beach. To wrap up the trip, we visited a souvenir shop and headed back to the buses. I ended the day by getting gelato with my roommate, Abbie, and purchasing European chocolate bars to bring home to my family.
