Days 6 & 7: Weekend in Pathos

Saturday and Sunday were spent in the coastal city of Pathos. We drove into Pathos on Saturday and had an overnight stay in a hotel. On Saturday we had a tour guide, Georgia, who took us to different historical locations around Pathos. On the drive into Pathos, which is about two hours, Georgia spoke about the history of Pathos. Sunday was just a relax day. We had free time on the beach until three in the afternoon.

Our first stop to Pathos was at the Kourion archaeological site. In Kourion, there was ancient Greek structures that have stood for hundreds of years. There was an old theater and remnants of an old mansion. Interestingly, the mansion was built to have many bathing areas for the townspeople to come and wash. Next, we stopped at Aphrodite’s Rock. Aphrodite’s Rock is supposedly the birthplace of the Greek Goddess of Beauty and Fertility. It was a beautiful scene. After, we had lunch at Pelican Tavern. It’s called Pelican Tavern because there is a live pelican that walks around the restaurant! It all started in the 70s when a real pelican just came to restaurant one day. I had chicken. Our last two stops for the day were Dionysus’ House and the Tomb of the Kings. Dionysus’ house was interesting and beautiful. The floors were made of mosaics depicting Greek stories and arts. The tombs were cool to see, as well. There were lots of them and they were quite large. Unfortunately, all of the tombs were robbed.

Sunday was just a chill day. Just a beach day. Soaking up the sun day.
