The City of Ulm (May 16, 2022)

We visited Ulm today and took a tour of the city. We climbed 300 steps to get halfway up the tallest church tower in the world (other half was closed 🙁 ). The stairs followed a very tight spiral and we all realized we were very out of shape by the time we got to the top. The views from the top were absolutely stunning when we could see through the nets that had been put up due to construction. I have included one of the pictures that I took of the view from the top of the cathedral further down. The walk back down from the top was even more treacherous as we were going down the spiral staircase this time. After getting to the bottom safely, we then walked over to the crooked hotel that looks like it is falling into the canal. Apparently the furniture inside of the hotel is modified to be level. The entire city had a sleepy feel to it, like no one there was in a hurry. Even for a Monday, there was not a lot of people rushing about to get lunch or run errands.

After our city tour, we went to dinner at an Italian place that had HUGE pizzas that most of us didn’t get to finish. I ordered the spaghetti bolognese and it was FANTASTIC (highly recommend if a future trip eats there). It was nice to get to sit down and eat and talk to everyone in our group.

We then took the train back home and saw some amazing views along the way. Then we went to the University of Augsburg to work on our final presentation with the German students. This was our first time taking the tram car alone and I think that we did pretty well as we did get on the correct train. When we got to the university, we found an empty classroom to work in and got straight to practicing our presentation. Right now, we are extensively over time, so hopefully we can cut that down before the final presentation day.
