Almost in Amsterdam!

Hey! My name is Lauren Melcer and I am currently a freshman at the University of Pittsburgh. I am studying Supply Chain Management and Business Information Systems in the Business School. Outside of the classroom, I am involved in Alpha Kappa Psi, a professional business fraternity and Smart Women Securities, an all women’s investment portfolio. I am very excited to travel to the Netherlands with Plus3! In my free time I love to spend time doing outdoor activities, spending time with friends and exploring new places which I am excited to do in the Netherlands. This summer I plan to intern at a local personal finance firm and head to the beach.

I am headed to the Netherlands in May and am very excited! I have chosen this program because learning about concepts to consumers will give me a strong insight into different aspects of supply chains. By going on company visits, I will be able to see what goes on in the day to day life of workers in the supply chain industry and potentially where I could end up in the future. I am also excited to see how different businesses and company’s function in the Netherlands compared to here in America. I realized this program was perfect for me because I will be able to get international experience without having to be away for an entire semester.

While I have never been out of the country, I have always been interested in the lifestyle and cultures of other countries. My whole life I have been looking forward to the opportunity to explore the world and this will just be the start of my journey. I am very excited to see the things that are unique to Amsterdam such as the tulip fields, beautiful buildings and try new food. By exposing myself to a form of education different from day-to-day life at the University of Pittsburgh, I will be able to get an in-depth immersion in business within the country. I am counting down the day until this once in a lifetime experience!
