Heyyy Everyone! My name is Katherine Gurda and I am almost done with my first-year at the University of Pittsburgh. I am pursuing a major in Accounting with minors in Economics and French and possibly a certificate in International Business. I am so excited to go to Cyprus in a few short weeks.
On campus I am involved in Club Cheer, Pitt ski and snowboard club, UPAA (University of Pittsburgh Accounting Association), FBA (Fashion Business Association), and WIB (Women in Business). I am also involved in PIST (Pitt intercollegiate ski team) and over spring break I went to Colorado with them. Another organization I’m involved with is the social sorority Sigma Delta Tau and in the upcoming academic year I will be the PDM chair and on the general board. In my free time on campus, I like to hang out with my friends, try new places, and watching movies.
I am originally from Wayne, New Jersey which is in Northern Jersey about 30minutes-1hour from New York City. One of my favorite places to go is the beach which I only live about an hour from. I go there all the times with my friends and family during the summer. Killington, Vermont is like my second home. My family has a timeshare there and it is only about 5 hours from my house, so we go a good amount of a times a year. In the winter we ski, and in the summer we mountain bike and hike. In the summer I work as a lifeguard and sometimes as a waitress.
Cyprus was first choice for this program. It is gorgeous country with many beautiful beaches and a lot of rich culture. I am also really interested in learning about global industries and working with other companies in different countries. I love to travel, and this seems like a fun way to do it. I also want to study abroad for a long time in the future and I thought that this would be a great way to get more experience abroad before going for a long time. In the future, I might want to live in Europe and work for companies there and this would help me get a better understanding of global companies and industries. I am so excited to go to Cyprus and can’t wait until we are finally there. I also can’t wait to get to know the other students better, and have a lot of fun experiences with them.
