Away to Argentina!

Hello! My name is Adriana Rivera, and I am wrapping up my first year at Pitt. I have spent this year attempting to navigate the city via google maps, participating in the American Marketing Association, and exploring different restaurants around Oakland. In my pockets of free time, I experiment on the ukulele and create silly animations. When I’m at home, I love making a variety of new desserts (if you haven’t already, I highly recommend trying guava cake).

When I was in second or third grade, one hobby I had a lot of fun with was soap making. I loved being able to choose a mold and customize the scent and color that I wanted. I showed these small soaps to my friends, and before I knew it, I was taking orders and charging a quarter for each creation. This experience made me realize my interest in business, and I am now majoring in marketing and pursuing a certificate in innovation and entrepreneurship. Through my studies and my experiences in the certificate program in leadership and ethics, I hope to create a business of my own.

I have always wanted to travel outside of the United States, and Plus3 provided a great opportunity to become familiar with international travel. My interest was piqued in healthcare after taking a First Aid and CPR course during the fall semester. I wondered how the skills I learned would be applied on a larger scale and how these systems were set up in different parts of the world. I was happy to see that this would be the primary focus in Argentina. Traveling to Argentina also gives me a chance to practice my Spanish skills. I have been learning the language all throughout high school, but have yet to converse in a fully immersive environment. This program will be a great opportunity for a hands-on learning and networking experience. I’m counting down the days!
