Hi everyone! My name is Kaylee Uribe, and I am a current freshman at the University of Pittsburgh. I am majoring in bioengineering on the pre-med track, hoping to go onto Medical school following graduation. I was born in Arizona, but I grew up in Pittsburgh, so I am not too far from home. I love the city of Pittsburgh, especially in the summer. On the other hand, being able to experience all four seasons is so beautiful in its own. Additionally, Pittsburgh feels small enough to where there is some connection to everyone, but big enough where there is always something new to explore. In my heart, I will always be a 412 girl!
Outside of academics, I work for The Pitt News as a staff photographer. I also work for Friendship Circle, an organization located in Shady Side, as a program staff. Finally, I love playing soccer, going to the gym, and hanging out with my friends and family. I’m Colombian, and have been lucky enough to be able to travel outside of the Country to visit my family there. Being able to experience and live in an environment where hispanic culture is the most prevalent has allowed me to grow intellectually. I am able to compare differences of culture between the United States and Colombia. This allows me to appreciate unique aspects of each culture, and I can’t wait to be surrounded by a new culture in Germany to be able to continue my cultural education .
I am participating in Pitt’s Plus3 Program, with the destination of Augsburg, Germany. I chose this particular program, because I am interested in being able to collaborate with peers from other majors and interests towards a common interest. I’ve always been impressed by the automobile and manufacturing industries, but I’ve never had the chance to fully dive into and it and learn more about it. With it being so prevalent in Germany, I am so excited to learn more about these industries in such a beautiful and historic country.
