Hello! (sup squad) My name is Antoinette Walter and I am currently finishing my first year here at Pitt. I am studying mechanical engineering and likely getting a minor in computer science. In my free time, I spend a lot of time running as well as creating fiber art like knitting and crochet. So every once in a while, I show up to Pitt’s running club and knittsburgh but it’s been a hot minute. I like to play the flute and piano as well so music has always been a really big part of my life. In the fall semester, I took a music class here at Pitt and it was really cool! I am also interested in auditioning for the The University of Pittsburgh’s Symphony Orchestra for next year because I forgot to audition last summer. (oops) After I graduate at Pitt, I am thinking of going to grad school but other than that I don’t really have an idea of what I plan to do.
I am from Lake Milton, Ohio which is about an hour and a half outside of Pittsburgh. I usually spend my summers swimming, water skiing, and running. I ran a half marathon this January and may try to run one again this summer. After I get back, I plan on working as a server at a beachy-themed restaurant called Castaway Craig’s. I also live near Cuyahoga Valley National Park and I am very excited to go back and go on a trail run there.
However, I am still very excited for this semester to wrap up and for our program to start!! I chose Plus3 Netherlands because I have never been to Europe before so I jumped at this opportunity. I have had friends who have gone to Amsterdam and so I have heard very good things. As far as academically, I know very little about business and industry so I am very interested in learning about it. It will be very valuable to my future as an engineer to explore concepts of business during my education.
I am also incredibly excited to experience Dutch culture. I just visited Costa Rica over spring break to visit my friend’s home and it was so fascinating to experience her culture from such a personal and first-hand perspective. Obviously this won’t be exactly the same experience as it’s an academic program, but I really want to see how the Netherlands compares to both the United States and Costa Rica.
As May 5th gets closer, I get more and more excited! I can’t wait to get know of all of you and start this program!!
