Costa Rica: The Sustainable Paradise

Knowing that Costa Rica is a very sustainable country makes me super excited to visit and see what the country is like. I want to see how they live the green lifestyle and see how I could incorporate it into my own style of life.

One of Costa Rica’s most important initiative is the National Decarbonization Plan. The plan was put in place to change waste, transport, energy, and the use of land to push for net zero emissions by 2050. Another important driver in sustainability is increased recycling rate by 469%. This was helped by the pay to throw program which charged the residents for the garbage that they throw away. Interestingly enough, I did not see any sustainability directed to coffee or bananas in the quick search I conducted.

Prior to the trip I had the opportunity to intern with the Center for Sustainable Business. My time there taught me more about the importance of sustainability and strategies to obtain a more sustainable lifestyle. These initiatives and my past internship are a big part of why I am excited to travel to such a sustainable country. I am excited to see the country grown by its great sustainable initiatives and plans for the future.
