Today was finally the day! We started by getting in last night and meeting as a group for dinner and playing a fun Cyprus-themed jeopardy game with the engineering majors vs business majors (business majors obviously won). We really enjoyed our time before we started the trip. We chilled the rest of the night and woke up for our prompt departure at noon to the airport.
It was definitely a thrilling ride to the airport filled with lots of adrenaline and excitement for what’s to come. Once we got there we promptly organized in our groups and got ready to go. Checking our bags and getting through security and TSA was as smooth as all of that can be and we went to our gate where we waited for our first flight. We got some lunch and snacks to keep us fueled for the day ahead. We boarded our plane to head to our first layover in DC so it was a very short and painless flight. Our layover in DC was fairly quick but we ended up leaving a little bit later than originally anticipated which was nice to get a smidge more time for things. We boarded our flight to Frankfurt for our second layover before the final destination!
This leg to Frankfurt was our longest one, where we experienced a meal, sunrise, and plenty of turbulence all in one trip. I had a window seat so I loved looking out to see where we were and what I could see out of the window. It went from leaving DC and overlooking the capital of the United States to traveling through time while it was pitch black outside to a gorgeous sunrise and then upon landing seeing much of what Germany looks like from above as well. I loved to see the difference between how different neighborhoods, towns, and agricultural areas were from the United States. Residential areas in Germany looked much different from the US as they were very compact and centralized to one area with agricultural spaces in between. The houses had similar styles and I loved seeing the difference between the US where the houses are more spread out and urbanized even when in the suburbs. As we get ready to board for Cyprus I am excited to see what cultural differences appear here as well.
We’re so close to the end of our travel day and I’m definitely ready to arrive. It will be very excited and the excitement is keeping me from falling asleep just yet. Maybe I can get some more legit sleep on this last leg but I am very ready for what today (well the last half of Sunday) will bring for us.
