After a 4-hour flight from Germany, we finally arrived in Cyprus. Unlike the U.S., the airport was very quiet and everybody seemed laid back and relaxed which was surprising for 3 p.m. on a Saturday. We were immediately told that the weather was a little bad for Cyprus which was pretty amusing as the current conditions were better than 90% of the days in Pittsburgh.
It took roughly an hour to get from the hotel to the airport. Once we arrived we spent some time settling in and unpacking before we met with the group for dinner later that night. Our group took a walk to the marina with our guide where we were informed of some of the history of the buildings and areas that we were in. For dinner, part of our group went to a Mediterranean restaurant named “Castello” which was very different but good. I had the experience of trying Halloumi at the restaurant and to my surprise I enjoyed it a lot. This also reminded me of the opportunities to try new foods and different cultural traditions, which I am looking forward to continuing as the trip goes on. After dinner, our group walked around and explored some unique areas of the city. The city’s layout was very jampacked with buildings lining the roads everywhere you looked, the streets were tiny as well and mostly one-way. The presence of mopeds was also apparent with them zipping around the streets every couple of minutes. We arrived back to the hotel where I finally got the chance to sleep in a bed after roughly two days of nonstop traveling and little sleep on airplanes. Can’t wait for what tomorrow brings!
