As we arrived in Costa Rica, I was immediately struck with the effortless peace and beauty of the country. Whether it be the band playing in the background as we toured the city or the soccer field overlooking a lake. Everywhere I looked there were vibrant colors and beautiful sounds. My most significant impression was the overall kindness of the people. The “Pura Vida” way of life was genuinely embodied by all the people we met as they let us live in their homes and show us around their country.
My impressions have completely outdone my expectations in regard to the country and the people of Costa Rica. While we played soccer we were approached by four young children: Zachary, Ignacio, Gael, and Franco. They joined our soccer game with smiles and laughs as we struggled to beat these 9 year-olds. The food has also left me speechless, all of the homecooked meals cooked by our Mama Tica have been delicious, proven by clean plates at the end of each meal.
As I type this I sit outside listening to my homestay father play music and cultivate his orchids and I just am so lucky to have had this opportunity. This beautiful country just inspires a feeling of peace that can be felt no matter where you are in the country.
