Day 3!

Hello again! Today was a very long day, but such an interesting and fun one as well. Our day started with a trip to speak with the Deputy Minister of Health. During his lecture he gave us some insight into the major challenges that face the healthcare system in Argentina. He talked about a push for primary care. Primary care is something that we are very used to in the states. Mostly everybody has a family doctor that they go to and we have things like urgent care and walk in clinics. But, here in Argentina, everyone just goes to the hospitals when they have a problem. This could be because everyone has free healthcare so why wouldn’t you just go to the er? Other major problems he discussed was a push for newer technologies and a way to better manage waste. After that lecture we then went to a lecture with Dr. Luis Scervino, a leader within Obras Sociales. He talked to us about Obras Sociales which is another sector of the healthcare system that consists over 300 unions. I learned just how much power the Obras Sociales holds within the healthcare system and how important it is for people. After our lectures we went to lunch and then bus and walking tours around the city. We walked around a town called La Boca which is very colorful and full of different shops. We then went to a market to the pink house which is where the president operates. We also got a chance to see a ceremony where the flag is brought down in front of the building and taken back inside until morning. It very much reminded me of the changing of the guard in Washington D.C. Overall it was a great day and I can’t wait for tomorrow! See ya:)
