Dìa 3

I really enjoyed day three in Buenos Aires. Today was a very long and tiring day but it was also a very informative and productive day. The first thing we did today was we met with the current Deputy Minister of Health of CABA and his name was Dr. Daniel Ferrante. His lecture was very informative and he talked about the challenges of his job and things that he is working on within the ministry of health. He also gave us a good vision of problems occurring within Argentinas health care system. Dr. Ferrante mentioned that there is a problem with the wages of nurses and physicians and how some nurses are going on strike because of it. Their salary is definitely a major concern. After meeting with Dr. Daniel Ferrante we then met with Dr. Luis Scervino. Dr. Luis Scervino is the current Director of the Obra Social de Obras Sanitaria’s. He is also the past superintendent of health. His lecture really showed the importance of understanding union and what their impact is to the people of Argentina. Unions in Argentina divide up power within the 3 sub sectors of the health care system. The Obras sociales is multiples unions that are important because they can help provide better health care to people who have jobs and work but they don’t make enough to have the private insurance. After attending the lecture from Dr. Luis Scervino we went for lunch. We had pizza with ham, mozzarella cheese, and peppers and it was very good. The last thing we did today was take a bus tour in the Southern part of Buenos Aires. We went to La Boca and it was so different. I didn’t realize how unique the city of Buenos Aires was and it is so beautiful. It’s a lot different than the United States. Tomorrow we tour the Northern part and i’m very excited.
