Today we attended a guest lecture from Ellie Doyle, the founder of TalentHub. TalentHub is a company that provides recruitment and talent management services to businesses in various industries. Their focus is on identifying and developing top talent, connecting them with companies that can benefit from their skills and expertise. There was a lot of great information that she told us in regards to making yourself an ideal candidate in a job search. One of the main points of Ellie’s presentation was that individual competencies and soft skills play a crucial role in your marketability as a potential hire. Therefore, it is essential to identify your strongest competencies and work on developing them further to improve your job performance. She also emphasized the importance of discovering your personal brand, which is the image and impression you want to create in the minds of potential employers. Developing a clear and consistent personal brand can help you stand out in a crowded job market and make a positive impact on your career. Ellie also highlighted the impact of social media and your social footprint on your job prospects. Your online presence can significantly influence your employability and can be a determining factor in whether you get a job or not. Therefore, it is essential to maintain a positive and professional social media profile that reflects your personal brand and highlights your competencies and skills.
After thinking a bit about my essential skills, I have decided that my best skills are my communication skills along with my critical thinking skills. I have worked with a contracting company for the past few years, I feel as if this job has set me up well to be able to transfer these skills into the business world. Communication skills are necessary for effective collaboration and teamwork. In the business world, you need communicate effectively with their colleagues, superiors, and clients to achieve their goals. Strong communication skills help me express their ideas clearly, understand others’ perspectives, and build positive relationships, all of which are crucial for success in the workplace. Critical thinking skills help to analyze complex problems, evaluate information, and make informed decisions. In the business world, critical thinking skills are essential for identifying opportunities, developing effective strategies, and solving problems. Having the skill of strong critical thinking will help me in the rapidly changing business landscape to make informed decisions in uncertain situations.
My personal brand is going to be based on hard work. Being able to demonstrate my work ethic in situations where I needed to go above and beyond, staying consistent while delivering high-quality work, and taking initiative in projects or presentations are all aspects that I want to focus on when marketing myself. I have always believed that individuals who focus on doing the best job that they can possibly do and show their employers that they are working hard, even if they aren’t the most qualified, will always be successful in the business world.
