Touring Café Britt was a very unique experience that I explains very well the process by which the company roasts and exports its coffee. Their strategy of hiring actors for the tour guides, as well as implementing social media and influencers for marketing, sets them apart from their “competition.” It’s also worth noting I enjoyed Café Britt’s coffee a fair bit more than Doka’s (Doka still had great coffee).
Café Britt offered a very different experience when compared to Doka, and provided a number of additional insights into the supply-chain process of coffee in Costa Rica. Café Britt, as opposed to Doka, are coffee roasters who sell and market their coffee. Café Britt is not responsible for the entire growing and fermentation process, though they still have coffee plants around the plantation.
My team’s topic, deliver, relates to Café Britt’s position in the coffee supply chain. Café Britt is primarily known for the wide number of countries they export their coffee products to. Additionally, Café Britt has a very tourist-oriented delivery strategy, as they place their stores at a number of hotels and the Juan Santamaría Airport. This enables a very smooth delivery process domestically, as Café Britt does not have to transport its coffee far before reaching a large number of customers. This is, additionally, why the primary consumer of Café Britt’s coffee is tourists and not Costa Ricans.
