5/10: Czech festivities

Every day I leave this hotel, I am even more excited to explore this amazing city. We started out our day today by visiting SIC, a company that provides resources to promising startups. We got to see some products from startups that SIC has helped, such as a rice pasta company (gluten free), a little cardboard piggy bank, and some glass nail files. We also learned about the central bohemia region as a whole. I learned that ELI beamlines has the most intense laser system in the world, which is so so cool to me. After the company visit, we went back to the hotel briefly to change, got lunch, and then toured a bomb shelter from the cold war, that was also used to spy on people staying in the hotel above. Afterwards, we went to a small music festival for students who are finishing their semester now, which was really cute! I got to make a little flower crown/headband while we were there. I then went with some people to try chimney cakes, which are NOT an authentic Czech dessert, but are definitely still delicious. I ended my night by grabbing a baguette sandwich and eating in the park by the river (picture of my view below).

It is difficult to think of little things in this large city, but there are a few things that I have noticed. I have found that there are busy streets and big touristy areas, but once you get off onto one smaller side street it gets infinitely quieter. This makes it easy to be a tourist and take everything in, but also get a little escape from that scene pretty easily. I also really enjoy how many smaller shops, cafes, and bars there are on side streets. It is so easy to walk down a random street and find a new place to try, which I believe is kind of unique. A little thing that I have personally struggled with is dealing with cash. I have so many coins, but I have to read each one to figure out what it all means. Also, I find that I kind of lose my sense of direction in this city. Since the streets are not a grid, I find it difficult to maintain a sense of where I am.

Bonus fact: I got to see my friend from home who lives here last night after I published my previous blog, so enjoy an extra photo of us!
