Sweet Cyprus, Let’s Go Pitt

This morning we travelled to Cyprus Marine & Maritime Institute. We listened to numerous speakers from CMMI. It was very informative about their values, mission, vision, and strategic objectives. I am thankful for my Pitt education because without the prerequisite for this trip, Managing Complex Environments, I would have been confused. We learned about the importance of their work and I found the robotics team interesting. I cannot wait for their team to implement their robots in the ocean and clean up the ocean.

After our visit to CMMI, we traveled to Larnaca and toured a beautiful Greek Orthodox church. The tomb of St. Lazarus was underneath the floor. The architecture was breathtaking. There was stone, gold, and icons everywhere. I had never been to a more intricately designed place. I was amazed with the preservation, considering the age of the church. We toured another church where there was a mosaic on the wall with 4mm thick pieces. It was also very detailed and astounding to think of the time it would have taken to construct it. We walked around the town and got lunch. I got some goodies to remember my trip and gifts for others. 🙂

After Larnaca, we travelled up the windy mountain to Lefkra. On our drive up, we could overlook into some sort of a valley where it was beautiful. after reaching Lefkra, we took another guided tour where we saw a peaceful town tucked away from the main tourist cities in Cyprus. It was refreshing to wonder the streets and see the small alleyways. We tried some traditional sweets, so it was a sweet day.

We returned back to Limassol where I went to get a quick dinner. I got a chicken souvlaki pita. After dinner I went up to our rooftop pool where we have been able to converse and bond. It is so nice, and has a beautiful view that overlooks the surrounding areas.
