Today we visited Charles University again for a language lecture followed by a history lecture. We covered the alphabet, common phrases, and the history behind how languages formed. Once we had a quick lunch and watched the Kafka head spin, we went back for a second lecture about how history affected innovation. The history was a great connection between historical events we had learned throughout our trip and engineering feats such as military fighter planes.
After spending two days at Charles University, it is clear that the setup of the campus is quite different from a traditional University in the US. Charles University doesn’t have a traditional campus or college town. Instead, the buildings are scattered all throughout the city. The building that we were at today was next to the Mexico Embassy, a bar, and a pizza shop. Furthermore, the classrooms that we were in were pretty small compared to a standard lecture hall in the US. Otherwise, students seemed to be wearing similar outfits to a typical US college student. However, our tour guide told us that during finals weel the students are required to dress up. My finals attire is the complete opposite and consists of sweatpants and a comfy sweatshirt.
