Day 4-Grob

We visited the company, Grob, today. Grob is a company that makes machines and equipment for companies that make autonomous vehicles. The factories used to make machines were so interesting. Most of the machine parts made by the company were made using machines. In a sense it was almost as if it was machines making machines which is weird to say, but sort of true. When we toured the factories, some of the machines were massive. I saw people actually having to go inside of the machine and clean it, keeping in mind that these machines made just parts. This place was so different from what I expected. I figured there might be one small factory making parts for each individual piece and then an assembly line was formed to make the final product like how Hoerbiger was. I was so wrong. There were 4-5 factories I toured while I was there, each bigger than the last and was so hard to comprehend the size and complexity of them.

Hoerbiger and Grob can both be compared to considering the fact that they are both involved in the automobile industry. They are both similar in the way that they make products for not only the automobile industry, but they also branch out to other industries such as the medical industry with their main focus still being automobiles. They are different in many ways, however. First Hoerbiger focuses on making specific parts for automobiles where Grob makes machines for automobile company’s to use. This makes Grob a lot more flexible when it comes to making new products for different customers, when there is a shift in the market. Hoerbiger only makes specific parts for OEM’s making it harder for them to adapt to market changes.

Today’s dining experience was a 9/10. I had the standard hotel breakfast and for lunch I had pesto pasta at Gorb’s dining hall which both were not bad at all. Diner, however, was great. We went to a Vietnamese restaurant called Ryu and I ordered chicken with chili mayo sauce and sage sushi. Both were delicious!
