Hi everyone! I can’t believe it’s already been 5 days into this trip. It’s crazy how fast the days go. Today we toured a public hospital called Hospital de Agudos Paroissien. Like I mentioned in yesterday’s post health care is a human right in Argentina so everyone gets free health care, unless they would pay for the private hospitals. Hosptial de Agudos Paroissien is a little bit similar to the public hospital we visited yesterday. It has only two floors and that is because if there is a war it would be difficult to find where the hospital is. It is a fairly big hospital and unlike hospitals in the United States it has everything you need in it like a persons gynecologist and pediatrician. In the United States if someone wants to go to their gynecologist or pediatrician it is a separate building and sometimes not even close to the hospital. We also went to a public university called Universidad de la Matanza. Like health care in Argentina education is also a human right and is free unless they want to pay for a private university. The university has 60,000 people here. We met with some of the nursing students and they are all first generation students so their parents did not have a college education. Everyone at the university was so welcoming and extremely nice. There are many ways that health care and education systems in Argentina promote equity. Equity is the quality of being fair and impartial. Health care and education promotes equity because there is universal health care and there is universal education. That is being fair to everyone and does promote equity. I think that really could be a good thing because there are many people that can’t afford to get the proper care and can’t afford the right education. Tomorrow is going to be a really fun day and I’m super excited!!
