GEC and Fish and Chips

Hello everyone, today was a shorter day but a rather restful day. We started the day with a trip to the Guinness Enterprise Centre (GEC for short). We went to the company and just like yesterday at Google, we sat in on a little presentation/lecture on the history of GEC and what the company does and stands for. I really enjoyed this site visit; I am personally not into the entrepreneurial side of the business world, but it was still really cool to see this side of it all. GEC is like a campus based in Ireland for start up businesses to go to for help with having a place to do work, funding, and overall guidance for starting their businesses. One of the key takeaways I took from this site visit is how supportive the Ireland government is to new companies. We learned yesterday that back in the 1900’s they let immigrants come in to give them work and expand the Ireland economy. After the lecture/presentation today, I can see that all be put together, like little puzzle pieces. It is really interesting how everything fits together in this city and the country as a whole.

Like I said, I am not into the entrepreneurial side of the business world, I am an accounting major, I am more into numbers and balance sheets, but I also think as a business student it is good to get an idea of how everything works in business world not just one part. From what I knew before today and what I learned today at the site visit, I think someone has to be in the right mindset to start a business an ‘entrepreneurial mindset’. Having an entrepreneurial mindset means that you are willing to take risks, adapt to new situations, and think outside the box. These skills are transferable to many different fields, such as business, technology, and even the arts. By being open to new ideas and approaches, you can find innovative solutions to problems that others may not have considered. This can help you stand out in your career and achieve success in whatever field you choose to pursue.

After our site visit today I went back to StayCity and took a nap. The nap was much longer than I wanted but I think it was good to have so much needed rest. When I woke up, my roommate and a couple friends decided to go to a restaurant in the city. That is where I tried fish and chips for the first time. It was actually really good and helped with a nice relaxing day that will help me be more set and ready for the days to come. So far this trip has taught me a lot about the history of Ireland but also a lot about how businesses works in Ireland but I didn’t think they would collide this perfectly into a story that I am slowly unraveling. I can’t want to learn more tomorrow! see you then!
