Today was an eventful day where we first started by taking the metro into the city to see the first ever bridge printed by MX3D.The bridge was in the red light district going over a canal. It was made of stainless steel over a six month period with a unique pattern. It was interesting to look at this bridge compared to the typical bridge going over a canal because most of them were more traditional which made this one stand out.
We then took public transportation to the MX3D office where Pierre, a business developer, presented to us on the company model and the engineering behind some of the work. We first learned how they optimized the design of the bridge and how they physically printed it and brought it over. It was intriguing to be able to see the bridge in real life and then the whole story behind it. We also saw the production behind many other works such as art, and industrial pieces. Their supply chain started off with the design of the model, then they check to make sure the design is as optimized as possible, plan to print, print the design with the stainless steal metal and then the final product is created. Even though the company is small with only 31 employees, they have produced a lot over the last few years, and it is cool to hear about the growth of the business.
We then took a walk to a nearby park before heading to dinner at a farm restaurant that was an old barn. We were served Dutch food such as peanut soup, a rice and egg dish and a strawberry dessert. It was unique and interesting to try more of the Dutch cultural food, even if it was not my particular taste. I think I learned a lot about the business world and cultures today.
