How do we balance what is best for the earth, what is best for our society and what is best for our economy? Today I learned that we are never truly balanced and in total sustainability, but rather are always moving forward towards attaining it. This is a relationship that people around the world are trying to keep healthy, and especially in Costa Rica.
Costa Rica is a special country because of its rich nature and abundance of natural resources. One example I learned of today on our Cloud Forest hike was how the mountain and the forest adjoining the mountain harvest the rain water and naturally purify and transport the water to locals. With ruining the forest the water system is disrupted and the locals are without an essential resource. This means that Costa Rica has specific challenges that other countries do not.

Following our tour we were given a lecture about sustainable economics, which I actually found incredibly interesting. From this I learned about the balance that is required to truly move forward and succeed in good health for our society. If I were to prioritize one of these sectors, social, economic and environmental, I would probably choose economic.
I would do this because I think economic can combine all of these categories and highlight the importance of each piece. Economic can mean prosperity for environmental profits and social profited services while also making everything else sustainable. So, in all, we need to keep moving forward and always look towards creating a more sustainable future to help ourselves and others.
