Digging for Experiences

Today we did some things, some super cool things. We got to tour a power plant and an open-pit coal mine. It was surprisingly fun getting to explore these active sites and see how energy production works firsthand. It was interesting getting to speak with some workers and learn more about the industry as well as how the politics here impact it. The company we visited, CEZ, has a goal to be carbon-neutral by 2040, when following up about this date it turns out that Germany decided it for them and they just have to figure out a way to reach this lofty goal. Visiting the mine was definitely a highlight of the trip for me so far. I really enjoyed seeing how this mine works as well as how they are already starting to restore the environment as they go.

After our long day of touring, we went to a black-light theater show at the original Czech location for this unique style of performance. I didn’t love it but am very glad I got this experience. I really felt like I was experiencing a show that Czechs would grow up attending and love.
