We started the morning with a visit to Guinness Enterprise Center! GEC is a startup hub with an array of services and support for entrepreneurs. Some of these include work space, mentorship, networking events, funding, and so much more. They also have connections with universities throughout the world including some in America.
My key takeaway from this site tour was the importance to collaborate especially as a start-up. Collaboration allows people to share different ideas and figure out what works and what doesn’t in the beginning. Meanwhile when the start-up is up and running, people work together to talk about what worked for them and didn’t and get advice about the next steps. The different prospectives is beneficial for start-ups and business in general.
There are multiple transferable skills that make up an entrepreneur. These skills include problem solving, communication, organization, critical and creative thinking, and growth mindset. I would say that I have an entrepreneur mindset, but I wouldn’t want to be one as a career. I have an organization person with a calendar on my phone with everything planned that’s color coordinated and I find joy in being organized. I am also an active communicator. In different positions that I’ve had I problem solved and used critical thinking to improve and fix the problem. For example, when there is an issue with billing or missed payments. I work with the individual to solve the problem.
Overall, it was a good visit, and I am excited for the rest of our tours!
